Islas: A Celebration of Tropical Cooking by Von Diaz

On this project, I photographed, propped, and food styled the recipe photos, working alongside author Von Diaz. Islas, photographed in the height of COVID-19, holds a collaborative photo collection of five documentary photographers, in addition to my recipe photography. A challenge I loved to keep visually cohesive as the book and stories came alive through photographs.

This narrative cookbook celebrates the cultures, stories, and cuisines of tropical island nations as they reclaim their ancestral foods from colonialism, climate change, and food insecurity. Celebrated and told through the wise eyes of many women across the tropics, Islas is a beautiful love letter to island people and their distinctive and tasty cuisine.
